I'm a 130 lbs. 5'2" female. I have owned a 78 kz650, and enjoyed riding it. I have never ridden a scooter of any kind, though. Really wanting a maxi scooter, but concerned about handling.

  1. well the silver wing is more of a scooter and the kz is more of a race road bike...KZ= much more power KZ=more weigh KZ= more speed  = harder to handle...SInce your only 52 130 id go for the silver wing but if you're a little bad *** biker chick i'd go for the KZ :)

  2. Just in general, a scooter is easier to ride than a motorcycle.  The Silverwing has small wheels which give it a low center of gravity.  This makes it very manageable and very forgiving.  It even has an auto transmission so you don't even have to think about clutching or shifting, you just twist the handle and go, squeeze the levers to stop.

I saw a guy on a Silverwing on one of my M/C weekend trips and I got to talking to him.  He used to ride a motorcycle, a 750, and he had an accident (not on the motorcycle) that made it hard for him to shift or use foot controls.  The Silverwing had no foot controls at all, both brakes are handbrakes.  He said he didn't think he'd like it because it wasn't a 'real' bike, but he absolutely loved it, and he was on a 600 mi. weekend ride.

My first bike was a scooter and I still look back on it with fondness.  So I'd say go for it!
