What is more ecologically friendly ?

Hand washing a dish in water heated by gas ,

Dishwashing a whole load if dishes in water heated by gas,

using a disposable paper plate?

I've always thought the dishwasher because it washes lots of dishes using the same water and soap.  When I hand wash dishes I use a lot of water to get all the soap off.  I prewash all my dishes to get the food off of them then when I load up my dishwasher I pack the plates in pretty tight to get them all sterilized.  I run the dishwasher about once a week.

buy an energy star dishwasher (they make other appliances too like washing machines that use barely any water) and that cuts down on the amount of water necessary to wash dishes, and the amount of energy used because they use less hot water. and don't use the heat-dry, rinse-hold or pre-rinse features.
