  1. gas, for now

  2. Gas, if you are just looking at the cost of the fuel.   But if you are not using gas also for heating and hot water, then it is more expensive because you are paying the monthly customer charge, too.

  3. electric will give you far better range per unit of energy input than gas.

because electric motors are so much more efficient than infernal combustion, eg max torque from 0rpm, from cold, regenerative braking etc.

the range per volume/weight will be better with gas due to higher energy density. but current batteries can still give a 200+ mile range before a 10 minute recharge, more than adequate for most journies.

  4. Gas.

  5. Gas is still more efficient because you get instant heat and don't have to wait for a burner to warm up.

  6. With gas prices going crazy, electric will be cheaper very soon.

  7. Gas can cost less. If a utility is burning gas to create electricity you can anticipate that electricity will cost more.

Gas distribution systems can also convert coal to natural gas instead of converting it to electricity. That too can be cheaper than electricity, particularly if the conversion is done in the ground, with no need to send miners down to sacrifice their lives to carve out coal.

Both coal and natural gas will be sources of greenhouse gases.
