I want to put in a drive way, my drive way to my garage is about 40ft x 7ft long, and the drive way in the front of house is about 30ft x7ft long. I heard asphalt is a lot cheaper to install than cement is.

  1. The initial outlay for cement in significantly more, but if constructed properly, the yearly upkeep of an asphalt surface (filling cracks and sealing) can make up the difference fairly quickly.

  2. Cement will definitely be more expensive initially but if you live in an area without a freeze/thaw cycle, it will last for a LONG time. My 15 year old cement driveway in NC does not have a single crack in it (other than the built in expansion joints).

  3. Cement is more expensive to install but in the long run cheaper to maintain

  5. Cement cost allot more!

  6. I am not sure of current cost, however, in ratio they sure be about the same in cost / sf.  Asphalt = 3.25/sf,  Concrete = 5.75/sf.

  7. Asphalt is cheaper, but that would also depend on oil pricing.  Asphalt pricing have been creeping up.  You should consider the weather in your area when you choose your material.  If you live in an area that has four seasons, the freeze thaw cycle can wreck your concrete in a couple of years.  You should also consider using sand set concrete pavers, they look much nicer than concrete and cost about the same.
