  1. The most GOLD of course but why not take into account the size of the country winning it and the number of team members. One GOLD from a team of 20 would surly be more significant than 20 GOLD for the USA.

  2. gold

1000 silvers don't equal to one gold is the saying

  3. GOLD!

If they count the number of medals, it would be unfair for smaller country that doesn't have a lot of athletes. Korea or even Australia would not be able to compete with USA and China.

  4. Gold

Which country would be valuated higher, one with 6 gold metals or a competitor with with 7 bronze metals?

    The 6 of course.

  5. there are things far more important than the medal count in general,

the attitudes of athletes that they have fun. that new nations join the olympics. countries that are in a bad way being represented,

but if you want to an answer to your question i personally think the overall tally is more important, because it shows you have a number of athletes that want to do well for their country and are still proud to be representing their country and trying hard even for a silver or bronze, think about it even 5th in a final means your 5th in the WORLD,
