  1. neither, the most important thing you would need is a chicken. and a brain.....

what you are studying will be fostered by what you are trying to learn,

  2. This would depend entirely on the reason you wish to pursue knowledge about poultry and the agricultural degree you wish to attain.

Poultry science is a very specialized area of animal science.  Consequently, a horticulture major will receive precious little instruction on poultry health, nutrition and management.

However there are many universities that offer an excellent program.  University of Arkansas and Auburn University have exceptional programs.

If your desire is to be a poultry farmer, then contact the integrators.  They have their list of desired qualities for poultry producers and most have a detailed training program.

    good luck

  3. even though i dont study chickens i have a degree in animal science with a minor in biology

  4. To specifically study chickens and poultry.

    And just a BS degree.

You have to plan things to be flexible,

    esp. if your interests change.

    Avian Science/Animal Sci Program.

Agriculture O.K. and if other aspects of Ag.

Biology if want to go to study others organisms or medical school.  Most Flexible.

I have a Ph.D. in Biology (plants, medical, biotech, research background)

but last 5 years have studied poultry and ruminants on my own.

I have several acquaintance that have been through all of the various programs BS/MS/Ph.D. All over the U.S.

I assume you are in HS. And in an FFA program.

What Country and State are you in?

You probably don't have to leave your state to find a good program.  Will save money with in state tuition.

Later on can get a MS or Ph.D. somewhere else.

    Email me if you wish.

    Best Wishes.

  5. Take up a degree in agriculture major in animal science

  6. you dont need a biology degree to get an ag degree. however, a biology degree helps a lot if you are wanting to go to vet school. i would say an ag degree would help better, it will teach the about a chickens environment, incubation, their diet and other things.

  7. Both. You will need a series of Biology courses to get a degree in Agriculture.

  8. Probably owning a chicken farm comes pretty high on the list. Then both agriculture and biology and probably veterinary science.

  9. agri

  10. You could do either and then go to veterinary school...there is a large demand for chicken veterinary specialists. Try the University of Georgia Vet.school
