  1. Nitro groups deactivate the ring.  Alkyl groups activate the ring.  Which do you think will be more reactive?


  2. The ethyl group will dontate electron density in by hyperconjugation, the Nitro group is electron withdrawing, the nitrogen isposiitve and wants some electrons.

    Meaning that the ethyl is more reactive
