  1. i would go with the python maybe even try the ball python, i love mine they are so gentle.

  2. Burmese pythons are pretty sedate (until they reach about 10 feet) then they get a little nippy.  After they get past this point and really large they get sedate again.  Bull snakes in my experience are pretty excitable and depending on the variety will eat other snakes.

  3. Pythons are always a good choice for pet snakes as they are more timid but u need to handle them regularly to tame them as such, small baby snakes are generally more agressive as they are born with the instinct to strike and can be very snappy, larger snakes that have been owned as pets before arnt as bad. And if u r considering it, id go to a reptile shop or wherever u want to get one from and talk to someone who knows the ins and outs and always make them handle the snake so u get to see its behaviour before u buy it. Lol ive been to these places as my cousin has heaps of pythons and loves them and ive seen some very snappy snakes pulled out of the boxes and it certainly puts him u off buying the ones with a bad attitude.

  4. neither.  Burmese get up to 20 feet in length.  I'd go with a corn or a ball python.  They are easy to care for and generally don't get more than 6 feet long.

  5. Bull snake or burmese python? I would really like to know how you came up with these two snakes they are so different.

The burm is definitely more tame but there are many other factors to consider.

    1. A burm is going to be more expensive, all around, the actual snake, housing, food, vet bills

    2. Bull or rat snake only lives about 15-18 years, where a burm lives 25 years and up so its a much longer commitment.

    3. Even though they are more tame, a bite from a burm (which WILL happen) depending on its size will be much worse than a rat snake. I know, Ive been bit by both.

    4. Burms are a little sicklier they are very susceptible to stomatitis (mouth rot).

    5. A cage for a burm will take up significantly more space than a rat snake cage will.

    6. We had a 17 foot 280 lb burmese python donated to our clinic because she ate their dog. If you have never seen a snake of this size strike, its quite awesome. However, if it got you there would be NOTHING you could do, I am not exaggerating.

If I were you I would look into more breeds. If this is your first snake I recommend a boa constrictor or a corn snake, not a ball python, they are definitely gentle but they stress out and stop eating too easily.
