As the name itself indicates, the projects having multiple products process technologies are " multi purpose projects ". This helps in reducing the cost of overheads involved in running separate units for each output. It will help the unit to get more income with less or nil investment on raw materials.

For example take a Hydel project. Before releasing the water for the irrigation purpose, electricity is generated, by placing the turbines below the dam. Or take a modern Sugar Factory, where two byproducts are recovered while manufacturing the Sugar. The molasses were utilised to extract the Ethyl Alcohol, which is further processed to manufacture Hard Liquor. The crushed cane waste is utilised to generate electricity ( for both internal use and for sale to main grid ). This ensures a Sugar Factory to an optimum profit, with out the burden of transportation of waste or waste disposal.

Similarly a Crude cracking unit. Where more than hundred byproducts are manufactured, apart from Petrol, Diesel & LPG. The last one being Bitumen, which is used in road construction.
