Question:

What is my best option in resolving an Illinois speeding ticket?

I recently got a speeding ticket for going 44mph in a school zone. This is my first offence. If I challenge the ticket but lose in court, will I still have the option of attending traffic safety school and avoid getting this violation on my driving record?

  1. As to a radar reading, it is not needed and the reading does not have to be shown even if radar was used, lots of departments use LIDAR now anyway.

It depends on where you are. In some areas you will be screwed because the judges don't care if no officer shows up on a school zone ticket, they will allow for continuances until the officer shows. I know now in Chicago if you request court on any ticket the officer gets disciplined if he does not show up. Usually no traffic school is allowed, but it is up to the judge, if you insist on court.

I would not take my chances. If you have the option for traffic school pay the ticket and pay for the traffic school. Then it is not on your record at all as long as you go to the traffic school.

  2. Go to school, you need it, and it'll keep your record clean. And slow down before you kill a kid.

  3. pay the ticket

44 MPH in a school zone could get you jail time.

  4. Did they show you the radar readout?  If they didn't get you on radar then the ticket can be challenged.  A lot of times the cop issuing it wont appear anyways.

  5. There isn't any defense for your violation.  I can't think of one Judge who would just allow you to go to driving school.  Probation may be an option if allowed.
