Thousands saw a man named Jesus who claimed to be the Son of God heal the sick, blind and raise the dead. Some believed and some did not. I believed and ask this man Jesus to be Lord of my life since then WOW! This you will have to PROVE for yourself. No it is definitely not blind faith but believeing and proveing the report of many before me...james the hollow earth man P.S. If someone said all the universe came into existence as the result of a big bang 13.7 years ago what kind of faith does it take to believe this?

  1. So, in order to understand, I must first believe.

But, I can't believe without understanding.

    What do I do now?

(Your faith is based on fantasy.)

  2.   Faith is based on believing something you have been told no matter how illogical it is.

  3. I don't believe in god. Any god. And it's not 13.7 years ago, it's 13.7 billion years ago.

  4. You believe,

    because you want to  believe,

    because it makes you happy,

so if it makes you happy,

    it must be true.

    Not very impressive reasoning,

    but whatever makes you happy.....

    At least it's not drugs.

  5. Your question has a problem right from the first sentence.  It hasn't been established that Jesus of Nazareth ever existed.  There are no immediate contemporary accounts of him; the earliest books of the New Testament dates to ca. AD 90.  The closest external source for Jesus is Josephus, who is considered a questionable source at best.

That's not to say Jesus never existed; personally I'd like to think he did, but there's no solid evidence one way or the other.  The problem is that you can't use Jesus himself as evidence for anything because his existence hasn't been established.

Your belief IS faith (blind or not), and is nothing close to proving anything about the truth of Christianity.

What kind of faith is needed to accept the Big Bang?  None at all, as it turns out.  The Big Bang is based on a solid foundation of evidence.  Scientific ideas aren't based on faith, but on evidence.  The point of faith is that you believe without evidence, or sometimes even in spite of it.  When you have evidence for something, you don't need faith to accept it, because it's backed up by the evidence.

  6. ASTRONOMY COLUMN IS NOT TO BE USED FOR PROPOGANDA OF THE RELIGIOUS NATURE. uSE OTHER FORUMS.

  7. Please do not witness in a science forum.  The differences between science and religion are quite evident, and make for lively philosophical discussion.  But they are not well-received as astronomy questions.  The Big Bang and all other scientific theories under discussion here are quite admittedly theories; but they are based on observations free from bias and preconception.  They may prove incomplete or flawed in the long run as we acquire better observations, but they are predictive for now.

And that's what progress is built on.  There is no religious faith based on such observation, and hence your disagreement about how the universe came to be is simply your desired belief, not the product of observation that can be tested and confirmed.

  8. Your faith is based on an inability to accept the fact of your eventual demise, so you cling to a fairy tale that falsely promises that you will live forever. It's really that simple.

  9. Though you seem to take your argument to the extreme, insisting that others must believe in Christ, I do agree with you on a level. Your argument does not prove the existence of Christ, but is a good argument in favor of spiritual faith if worded better. Science indeed requires faith, especially for most who follow it. Few people are astro- or particle physicists, yet they take these people's word that the universe is made of a fabric of space-time, that if you travel in one direction throught he universe long enough you end up at the same point eventhough our universe is 3-dimensional, and then there's of course dark matter and dark energy.

Many will suggest that sciecne is different because there is evidence to support such conclusions. However, there is no evidence of dark energy, but there is evidence of dark matter. There is no "without a doubt" proof that the universe is shaped like a balloon, that people can accidentally walk through walls as QM states, yet many people believe this stuff without ever working a single equation for themselves. I see little different in Stephen Hawking who asks people to believe his theories and the spiritual person who has claimed to see God or who has had God work miracles for him, because we will never know if the spiritual person is telling the truth, and many of us will never know if Dr. Hawking is telling the truth because to do the work he does requires imagination and knowledge of math most of us could never even begin to do.

  10. think that trying to understand god is like ..4 example, a dog trying to undrestand color and math. im not saying were like dogs but more like babies. u tell a baby dont touch! its hot..it will touch anyway and get burnt..but it wont touch again. i truly belive that we r created in gods image and with that said our potential is infinite just like god. but our problem is .. we have yet to realize it. today we r able to alter genetcs to change how smart a baby can be,eye color, hair color, u name it. we can clone any animal, we can create deseases and just as easly cure them.

now imagine were we wil be 1000 years from now and thats IF we survive. thats where i think jesus comes in. we will overcome our petty difrences and our minds will be enriched with experiance and love. i say love because i belive it is our only hope for survival and the key to heaven. thats what he tought us. its said onty through my son the christ will u enter into heaven. thus chist is love. ok after all that do u think we will be able to create another world just like ours. i mean we can already control weather..(look up "haarp")but unfourtunatly that power is used for evil.

but when we evolve into our inevitable future... the sky is the limit. that means no limit what so ever. and after all that since the best thing we r good at is creating life..we will.. and those beings on that planet will evolve to ask the same questions u and the rest of us asked. but we all know in order to apreciate a life like that..we must see the darkness we must see evil so we realize what it is we realy want out of life.

and that is love. plain and simple. with love we will save ourselves from evil and become god. and now fast forward about a millions years and try to imagine what we will be capable of. new worlds, galaxies, stars, univeses? i heard a preacher once say the day u can count all the stars in the sky is the day u can really question god. it doesnt sound imposible to me. that is our future. we all will evolve into great godly beings and it is our destany. we will one day count all the stars and at that point we will scientificly know every element, molicule etc.. that ever existed in out universe. after all that.. the next time there will be a "big bang" we will have front row seats as creators and gods.

  11. I admire your courage to come into the teeth of the atehists and share and proclaim your faith. You are a good and faithful servant of the one true God. Save many souls for we are in the shadow of the tribulation.

    Warn people of these:

    Many will be fooled...

  12. your faith is based entirely on your belief.

Belief is the psychological state in which an individual holds a proposition or premise to be true

A false belief is not considered to be knowledge, even if it is sincere. A sincere believer in the flat earth theory does not know that the Earth is flat. Similarly, a truth that nobody believes is not knowledge, because in order to be knowledge, there must be some person who knows it.

Belief is not knowledge and knowledge is not truth, therefor

YOUR INDIVIDUAL BELIEF DOES NOT MAKE IT THE TRUTH.. It only makes it true for you.

Theists typically change reality to fit their views.

Athiests have no problem changing their views to conform with reality.

  13. I don't know the universe was created 13.7 billion years ago. I believe it was not on faith but fact. You seem to KNOW there is a God and would be completely unable to believe anything else and this is viewed as a good thing by most believers. I do not share this reverence for your faith. This is the key difference between you and me. You have all the answers already and your beliefs cannot be corrupted by the world around you while I look at the world around me, derive my answers from what I observe, and should the world present me with new information I would be glad to believe the universe we know today wasn't formed 13.7 billion years ago... h**l I'd believe it came out of an Easy Bake Oven if there was enough information supporting it!
