  2. The simple answer is $28,434 divided by the number of hours in a year.  52 weeks times 40 hours per week is 2080 hours.  $28,434 / 2080 = $13.67 per hour.  But in many cases your hourly rate varies.  I used to work for a salary and it was computed this way, especially for overtime.  You take your annual pay and divide it by 12 for a monthly pay.  $28,434 / 12 = $2,369.50  per month

For your hourly rate, divide by the number of working hours in that month.  A month with 31 days can have 23 working days for a total of 184 working hours.  Your hourly rate for that month would be $2,369.50 / 184 = $12.88.

A month with 30 days might have 21 working days for an hourly rate of $14.10.

February might have only 20 working days in it for an hourly rate of $14.81.

Complicated?  A bit, but that's the way it was done.  As I understand it this isn't uncommon.
