Hello everyone,

I am a former football player 5' 11'' and weight at 308 pounds. before someone tells that that i am über fat .... let me tell you this ...

It is not all fat ... my fat is mostly at my tummy and around the sides

I have big shoulder with muscles, my legs have fat only in the inside and the rest is all muscles, my arms are so so ... I have some strong biceps and forearm but i need to lose weight in order to have only muscle. I go the gym twice a day and i am going trough a weigh loss process ... think of me as a junior body builder who`s muscles are hidden by fat ... that's what my gf usually describe me as ...

now everywhere i check my BMI it says i should be at 180 pounds .... is that so ? i mean i know i have to lose weight but i though my ideal weight would be 240 to 260 ... or something like that ...

what do you think could be my ideal weight ? is there a website that could help me fine my ideal weight ? I mean something that take into consideration that i am an ex football player with a lot of muscles ?

Thank you very much for your help .. i greatly appreciate the time you take into helping me .

p.s : body fat % is also accepted ...

  1. I'd be interested to see what your body fat % is (in extremis BMI is a total joke).  Odd one here at that sort of extreme weight, conventionally you could carry as much as 50lbs body fat and by some be considered healthy.  Personally at the extreme I'd rather be looking at 20lbs - 30lbs body fat and no more.

As for websites, I've looked and you've got me stumped, I would honestly work on just getting the % body fat down, monitoring both % and actual body fat weight.  If it looks good that's good enough for me!

  2. Up to 21% body fat is acceptable for a male. I don't think getting down to 180lb will be at all realistic for you. You are clearly very muscular and although your body fat % is likely to be a bit high at over 300lb, that does not mean you need to lose over 100lb to be healthy.
