Question:

What is my mysterious stomach problem?

On Thursday, we gave Advantix to our dogs, though I doubt my illness is related to that.

On Friday, I had half a turkey sandwich and a few other non-meat items for lunch. A few hours after lunch, my stomach started feeling not-so-good. I rested on the couch. The smell of dinner cooking (chili) made me feel a little bit queasy, but I was able to eat anyway, and my stomach didn't feel as bad. A little while later, though, my stomach started really hurting. I only felt a little bit nauseated with movement, but the sides of my stomach felt like someone was stirring them vigorously.

I took Peptobismal twice, but it didn't help very much, and it didn't make me vomit like it usually does, so I didn't take any more. In fact, throughout my whole illness, I have not ever really felt like I would throw up (which makes me think that it is not food poisoning).

I drank some Sprite around 2 am, which made me burp but didn't really help. I went to bed shortly afterward and laid there for a long time. I think maybe I slept just a little bit, then I woke up to use the restroom. I could not go back to bed, my stomach hurt so bad, and a few hours later, I was going to go to the emergency room, but then I went to the restroom and urinated, and then my stomach didn't hurt nearly as bad. I was able to go to sleep.

It's Monday now, and since Friday my appetite has been decreased. My stomach's been getting a little better each day, perhaps because I've slept 10 hours each day, and all that's left now is a little pressure. Still, it's been more than 48 hours, so it couldn't have been a 48-hour bug.

My stools have been small but infrequent, as I haven't eaten that much. I have not had any diarrhea, although Sunday one of my stools was gray/green/brown, possibly due to my not eating that well.

The location of my pain/pressure has not been in the very center where my belly button is, but directly to the sides of my belly button and up to the "corner" of my ribcage before it dips down. It extends probably three inches to the left and to the right. Today, it feels pressured/painful when I bend over and when I first stand up after sitting.

Any idea what this could be? Should I just bite the bullet and go to the doctor?

  1. just go to the doctor...i mean u dont want to go on lk this just go...

  2. You should go to the doctor. It could be many things.

However, what you are describing does sound like acid reflux or GERG ("Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease"). Over the counter medications that may help in the mean time include:

    - Zantec 75 / 150

    - or Prilosec

The main pill doctor's recommend are above for the stated condition (if it is indeed "acid reflux) and one other medication that may be used is Nexium or Protonix. You can look all of these up to read about them.

You could also be describing something that neurologists treat as well which is Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), which is much more difficult to treat (because there isn't really a medication). However, again, please do not jump the gun.

Go see a doctor and receive a professional opinion. You have too many things going on for one person over the Internet to diagnose. You also should not self diagnose because you will end up making a wrong choice or be too hyper-sensitive.

  3. Could be a number of things or nothing at all? I would drink alot of apple juice because it's a natural laxative. It'll clean your system out and you can then start eating regular again.

If you drink milk and it burns then it's an ulcer take zantax instead of pepto
