  1. Names don't translate.  Your name is Kate.

    I'm not Pagan, and my name isn't Dan.  When I lived in Taiwan, "pagan dan" (bacon and eggs) was my usual breakfast.

    My real name is Doug, but I liked to call myself "Da Ge".  In Chinese slang, a "da ge" (big brother) is the name for a leader of a criminal gang.  The humour lies in the stark contrast between a ruthless criminal and the real me.

  2. VEry true, names do not technically translate. I had a spectacular Chinese teacher who gave everyone in the class a Chinese name based on out English names and personality. My name is Melissa. My chinese name is said: Ai Xiao Meng. Ai being the last name, Xiao Meng is the common name I go by here in Taiwan.

    Characters: 艾筱萌.

  3. ^ f509262002 is right, that's how your name would be translated into chinese

    it would be pronounced like kai te ^^;

  4. if you translate it into Chinese it would be 凱特

    we transliterate english namms into chinese

  5. You have to choose a Chinese name. There are different characters that have the same sound, so if you were to translate your name phonetically, there would be many choices depending on what you would like your name to mean. Each character has a specific meaning, and when put together, can create a whole new meaning.

    A Chinese name would usually have three characters (though sometimes people have two-character names). The first is your last name, then the next two make up your "first name".

    Don't think that your Chinese name has to sound like your English name. Just choose some key words that defines you, or is something that is important to you. Then, ask someone who can write Chinese to choose a name for you.

    For example, my English name does not sound like my Chinese name at all. My parents were in a new country, and chose my Chinese name to mean "missing home".

    Good luck!
