My mum is 100% Scottish (from the west, I think celtic). My dad was born in America to a welsh (born in wales) mother and an american dad with a French-Cajun mother and a american dad with swiss german roots.

I was born in england, so think of myself as english but with no english blood whatsoever is this right? I have a joint british-american passport.

  1. You were born in England, so you're English... or Scottish or American if you want to be.

  2. Christ all bloody mighty.  Its worse than the family trees in Eastenders.

However, I should add I'm a bit jealous - all that lovely culture and history behind you.

  3. Your nationality is British. Britain is the nation you were born in therefore that is your nationality.

  4. you have to take after your fathers nationality which is American  and yes you have the right to a British-American passport.

  5. Basically

    you are

    americanic'scottishiley'Welshbly'

    Frenchish'English

    This is your nationality

  6. You are british american

  7. I think Tebs gave your the best answer. Nationality denotes your citizenship.  Apparently you have British and American citizenship.

A lot of people confuse nationality with ancestral heritage.  Actually with your American father you very possibly have a multitude of ancestral heritages.

  8. You are English by Birth, and Scottish-American by parentage

  9. If you were born in England and live in England, your nationality is English, if you also hold a British and an American passport, then you have dual English-American nationality. Along with everyone else on earth, your heritage is mixed, you can call yourself whatever you wish, it does not alter your heritage.

Note : Being British is being a citizen of the United Kingdom,

to be English, is to have been born in England.

  10. you are english because that is where you were born and considering england has been invaded by the anglo saxons the romans etc  what does it all really mean heritage wise? its just a name im not patrotic at all because we are all mixed race as far as im concerned.

  11. If you were born in England then you are English...if you are a sports person you could rep England ,Scotland,America, and poss Switaland,Germany,France through your Grandparents

  12. You said it, you are who you think you are! When Margaret Thacther confirmed that you are a citizen of where you are born -i.e you were born in England, which makes you British unless you want to think of your self as anything else.  It's a free world, you could be a citizen of any where you choose....through being born there, or naturilization. It's got nothing to do with your parents, but you might choose to be a Celtic, American, French or German.  It's your choice to pick anywhere you want. You could even be citizen of the world if you want.
