What is mystery shopping and is it worth it?

I think mystery shopping is where a company pays you to shop / secretly check out stores and there set up, appearance, employees, quality of products and etc.  I'm not sure how much people get paid.

Mystery shopping is where a company pays you (in money, services, or goods) for shopping or purchasing from them.  In turn, you rate the customer service you received, quality of goods, and overall experience.  It's a "real-life" study for the company.  It can definitely be worth it, depending on who's hiring you and how much time you're willing to devote to it.  I know someone who is a "professional secret shopper" as his retirement job, and he can't say enough about it!
