  1. Narcissism describes the character trait of self love, based on self-image or ego.

The word is derived from a Greek myth. Narcissus was a handsome Greek youth who rejected the desperate advances of the nymph Echo. As punishment, he was doomed to fall in love with his own reflection in a pool of water. Unable to consummate his love, Narcissus pined away and changed into the flower that bears his name, the narcissus.

In psychology and psychiatry, excessive narcissism is recognized as a severe personality dysfunction or personality disorder, most characteristically Narcissistic personality disorder, also referred to as NPD.

Sigmund Freud believed that some narcissism is an essential part of all of us from birth and was the first to use the term in the reference to psychology.

Andrew Morrison claims that, in adults, a reasonable amount of healthy narcissism allows the individual's perception of his needs to be balanced in relation to others.

The terms "narcissism", "narcissistic" and "narcissist" are often used as pejoratives, denoting vanity, conceit, egotism or simple selfishness. Applied to a social group, it is sometimes used to denote elitism or an indifference to the plight of others. Arguably, however, these terms are used to draw parallels between allegations of self-centeredness and Narcissistic personality disorder, rather than toward healthy self-love.

  2. Some people are just so sure of themselves even when they are wrong they just can't be told otherwise. That's some one who is behaving in a narcissistic manner.   Some people with this disorder even go to the extents of pretending to be of a higher status than they are, they will go to the trouble of educating themselves in certain areas such as, careers etc and then then live it as experts in the field.  For instance I've heard of theatre techs in hospitals that will try and pass themselves off as surgeons.

Then again we all go through our narcissistic phase at one level or another during our adolescent years.  Ever tried to tell a 15 year old what to do?? lol

  3. Being in love with yourself... It's named after the woman Narcissis... a greek god who was so in love with her own image that is ruined her life... sort of like you.

  4. i think its thinking that youre the bomb and you would have s*x with yourself if you could. um prolly cause they think theyre hot...

  5. The history of mankind dictates that GOD has created purposely, peoples with different colors, nature, habits etc. One of them is "NARCISSISM i.e self-love" , in short.

If we observe our own self and look around too, we will find that narcissism is existed into some extent.

    Why?

    Yes! good is this Q.

Excess of everything is bad so is plethora-narcissism too. But in a limited-parameters, if you do not love your self, you can not keep your self clean, can not dressed-up  yourself nicely, you can not eat good and clean food, you can not try good things in your life. Conclusion is that  ONE SHOULD NOT TO  BE  PROUD  TO BE "NARCISSISTIC"  IN ORDER, IF HE/SHE IS TO CREATE A GOOD HEALTHY SOCIETY.

  6. Obsession and love for your self. Why?

    No idea, I hate myself.

  7. Doesn't narcissism stem from dangerously low self esteem? I think it stems from a feeling of self importance almost bordering on paranoia. Like, Narcissists are obsessive, but only about trivial things and they personalise everything...Or that's how I understand it.

  8. Self love , like actors or actresses .

  9. It's when you love yourself or self-admiration. The word came from Narcissus...can't remember how exactly the story went, but he saw his reflection in a river and fell in love and I think he drowned.

  10. Narcissism is self-obsessions. It was named for Narcissus, and man who constantly studied his reflection in the water of a stream, so a water nymph turned him into a flower that hung over the stream, as if it was constantly watching its own reflection.
