  1. The answer depends on a lot of things.

Firstly, its depends on where you live. Different countries and states have different requirements.  These include education requirements (usually a degree in education or teaching), and criminal record requirements. Usually you will also need to undergo some form of medical screening to ensure you are physically capable of meeting the demands of teaching.

Secondly, what and who you want to teach. Do you want to teach preschool / kindergarten, primary / elementary, middle school / junior high, technical / community college, or university?  For preschool teaching you may need a certificate, a diploma, or even a degree, you will generally need a degree in education or teaching for primary to high school teaching. To teach college or technical school you will need to have some sort of qualification pertaining to your area of expertise. To teach university you will need at least a bachelors degree, although post graduate qualifications are preferred.

Possibly the most important neccessity for teachers is an enjoyment of teaching, including an interest in your students, and an open mind. You also have to be willing to give up a lot of your own time, as teaching in not a 9 to 5 profession, you spend almost as much time planning, preparing, and assessing outside the classroom as you do teaching in the classroom.
