I am clueless where to start or what tests to take to get certified. If you know what classes I need for college coursework, what tests I should take that would be great! I've asked a few counselors at my college, but they were not much help.

  1. Here is the exact page from the commsission on teacher credentialing (Ca):

    http://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/CREDS/...

You must enroll in a teacher prep program - if your school councelors do not know this, then you must be at a 2 year college where they do not offer it. - If you *are* at a 4 year - then they should have referred you to the education department.

The short version - you need a BA, enroll and finish a credentialing program - 1-2 years that includes student teaching, pass the cbest and your subject area test, finally you need to get some sort of language aquisition test out of the way..

    You need a university program.

  2. You should obtain a bachelor's in English before attempting the CSET for single subject English.

I don't know where you live, but CSUN has informational meetings on how to get your teaching credential. I went to one for multi-subject Elementary and found the sessions exceedingly helpful.

I've posted the link to them below.
