What is needed for a Wireless Connection?

For Internet on a PC Compaq Presario 6000,

I jst dnt want any wires running thry the hall ways.

Well, you need to find a stable table/surface where you can set it up.

If you can access the internet, you probably have a wire that is connected to your computer, right?

So firstly, you need to buy a Wireless Router. I have a Airport Extreme myself.

So to set up one, you need to:

1. Have an existing internet connection

2. A Internet Router

3. A Internet Wireless Device

Do you use a cable modem or dsl modem?

My suggestion is to get a wireless router with internal modem.

If you use a desktop, most likely you also need to buy a pci wireless lan card.

I know the natural thinking is to go wireless, but you actually do not have to go wireless.  You can go with powerline.  Here is something I recommend: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

This gives you a hybrid of powerline and wifi.

I don't like recommending wireless to people because most do not setup the security right.  Powerline is simply plug and play.  Wireless is not that much more difficult to setup, but it is when it comes to setting up the security.

If you find yourself not even using the wireless, I suggest going into the router and disabling the entire wireless.  Powerline is just simply more secure.

This product that I am showing you works great if you ever decide you want to connect an ipod to your home network.  For something like that, you need all the mobility you can get.

If its a laptop it should have come with a wireless broadcom chip...If its a desktop you need to buy a wireless card...
