What is needed when registering a car in C.A.?

I need to register a vehicle in ca, I was wondering if anyone knew what things I need to bring with me to the dmv?....also what forms and does anyone have any idea how much i would pay if i purchased the vehicle for $7500.....thanks in advance

  1. The old title (get from seller)

    Bill of sale (get from seller)

    Smog check certificate (available anywhere with a sign that says California Smog Check Station, including most garages/mechanics; usually costs about $45, but if you can find advertised discounts or coupons, then more like $25.)

    Insurance card (get from insurance agent)

    Identification (usually your driver's license)

    Note: If you bought the vehicle in another state while a California resident, then you may not be able to register it in California.  Most cars sold in other states do not meet California's emissions requirements.  However, if you bought the car while a resident of another state or under certain other conditions, the car is exempt from that requirement.
