Question:

What is niger board?

I have always heard it refered to as ****er board in the south but it was a black (in color) construction board. I don't know the proper name for this 4x8 material or even if its sold anymore. Can anyone please advise. Thanks.

its called celotex .and you can still get it but i think now they cover it with foil .

It had the same name around here well after it was no longer politically correct.  The technical generic term is "fiberboard insulating sheathing".

At one time, there were several different brands.  Knight-Celotex still manufactures the product and also has some improved versions that are coated to resist moisture or provide some structure.

I would not use this product in a construction project.  There are several alternatives that offer better insulating properties and/or structural properties.  There may be some good uses, but I can't think of any.  Price was the primary reason it was used years ago, but in the current market this should not be an issue.
