  1. If you mean oil and its by products.. the largest user is Electric Generating Plants.. They use everything from fuel oil to natural gas..and LOTS of it.

  2. the oil forms a hydrodynamic wedge between metal surfaces of the engine.

Look at it like your tires hydroplaning on the road.  When your treads are low and your speed is too fast the water can't move out from under your tire.  The water actually lifts the tire off the road.  The tire no longer is gripping the road loses control.

The same is with the oil.  Metal parts are moving very fast and oil is being pumped in between these parts.  The oil lifts the parts, and since they are not touching there is less friction and the parts won't wear out or overheat.

  3. to produce fuel.

  4. oil is refined and used for fuel - gasoline, diesel, kerosine (jet fuel)   we also use some unrefined oil for the crank case.  this unrefined oil is the 10-40 or 30 wt that lubricates the engine and keeps it from overheating

it's also used for making plastics and laminates and tons of materials that you use in your daily life.

  5. To FUEL and lubricate our mechanized society. Chemicals are derived from crude oil as well (insecticides, herbicides, etc etc etc). It is the raw material that powers our INDUSTRIALIZED civilization.

  6. Energy.

  7. IT DOES'NT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH GLOBAL WARMING.
