My honey is going to a business conference for a week and we are trying to save money by packing him up snacks and stuff. I'm just not sure what is okay and what is not okay. Like what is okay for carry on and what is okay for just in his suitcase? I was thinking of things like crackers and easy cheez and a stick of summer sausage and some ding dongs or something. I'm just not sure. He's flying Delta if that matters.

  1. The things you've suggested are ok, except for possibly the cheese.  If it comes in a can, then no, he can't take it in his carry on (he could pack it in his checked luggage).  If he wants cheese on the plane then get some precut cheese squares at the grocery store (Kraft makes prepackaged cheese squares that fit on Ritz quite nicely).

Foods that travel well and can be taken on the plane in your carry on luggage include: apples, grapes, oranges, bananas, carrot/celery sticks, granola bars, crackers, cheese (string cheese and cheese squares work best), Pringles chips, hard candies, M&Ms, single serving prepackaged cookies, sandwitches (pack in disposable plastic containers so they don't get squished), and foods that don't require heating/refrideration and that pack well.

Foods to avoid: anything that is liquid or gel in consistancy such as yogurt, jello, pudding, soup, etc or that needs to be heated before eating or kept cold until eating.  Out of courtesy for your fellow passengers you should avoid any foods that have a strong odor.

Foods that are purchased AFTER the security check point are ok to take on the plane with you regardless of them being a liquid or not.

  2. Don't take drinks the amount of liquid to take on board is very small . You can take on any food to eat on the plane but don't land with it in case that area has strict rules . Any food you take in your checked luggage must be declared . This is for international flights. domestic may be a little easier on your food requirements.
