What things MUST be on there? And what are just perks?

For instance, they say having a second language is important, grades must be over 3.0, and you have to have a relevant major, but if that were their main criteria for selecting employees, they would have a very huge pool to work with. I know at least 10 people personally that fit that. Probably considerably more.

I think I have some good qualifications but I don't want to join the army to improve them because, frankly, I don't want to be apart from my girlfriend for another year. Anything else I can do to build up my resume?

  1. Already hold a security clearance - TS/SCI with counter poly would be prefered, military intelligence experience in any realm, work for DoD contractor in intelligence field, previously established jobs with DHS, FBI, NSA, DIA, DEA, ATF, ICE, or something along those lines.  What are your qualifications already?  You Must be able to get that TS clearance so drug use is a big factor, financial state, etc...

  2. A graduate degree.

You can go to the CIA careers webpage and see what they are looking for.

  3. ONLY on the job experience would make you a better candidate... and ONLY in the military can you get intelligence analysis experience....  Have you considered something OTHER than the Army???  The Navy has a rating...  CTI (Cryptoligic Technician Interpretive) that will send you to language school... then to analysis school....

Realize that no matter what you do... your security clearance is the toughest requirement...  do your homework on that part too!
