  1. Hi, sorry to inform the previous answerer that  the Tomatina mentioned above is a feast, not a legend and they do not do human pyramids.

    My favorite food related legend from Spain, which many say is true, is about the invention of Marzipan.

    Tells the legend that once during the reconquest war (800 years long war) against the Arabs the city of Toledo was sieged during months. It got to a point where they run out of flower to make bread, and hence, the crafty Toledanos used finally  mashed almonds, honey and butter and they made Marzipan, which today is still one of the specialties of Toledo and some people say it is the best marzipan in the world.

    The English word marzipan comes from mazapan, which is the Spanish name, and which derives from masa or mass and pan bread, hence a mass of bread.
