  4. In our family tradition in Deepawali we worship ourseleves n its called MHA POOJA.

  10. To argue on christmas day

  11. It is a tradition to always bring a potato when you go visit someone. My mom started it because she would always get so mad at my cousins when they would go to my grandmother's and eat everything in the house. My grandmother leaves 3 hours from a store, so it was very rude.

    My mom's words were "Can't they at least bring a bag of potatoes?" Now we always bring at least one potato and a sack full of groceries when we go on long distance visits.

  13. Well, aside from Christmas Eve with the family, eating fish, my mom started this one with my nieces and nephews. Every year when we get our Christmas tree, she invites them all over and they 'decorate' it with her and then they pose for a group photo in front of the tree. She started that when they were all between the ages of like, 11 and three, and they still (insanely) look forward to it though two of them have their driver's licenses now, LOL! It's not so much that they enjoy decorating it, I think they just really appreciate her making them a part of our celebration outside of Christmas Eve. They all love looking at those old polaroids, I think it reminds them of a more simple, loving, happy time in their lives. In fact, this morning, after the three girls spent the night here, and we were walking down the hall, and our roof was leaking, I sighed and said, "Oh, this house," and one of my nieces said, "I love this house."

    I asked her why and she said,

    "It has so many happy memories for me."

    Several years ago, when we talked about selling and moving, one of my nephews said he wanted to buy it. He was like 13 at the time. I think it's because my mom let him 'hammer' the nails back into the porch swing when he was about two. I think he still remembers that.

    Anyway, we have a lot of traditions in our family, mostly religious, but that's one of the most precious for those kids.

  16. on my mom's side we get together during christmas and make tamales as a family.  And then later on while we are enjoying them, my uncles play the classic spanish guitar (a style known as Trios).

    Grandpa usually wins that one..  

  18. Christmas day lunch at Mom's house, and Sunday lunch at Mom's house for all the October born -- we have 5 immediate family members!

  22. One of my sisters always forgets to send Birthday and Christmas cards and rings up on the day and says she will send them on as they are in her bag. She must have sacks of cards waiting to be sent!

  25. All the weirdos in my family get together on Thanksgiving and there is some sort of minor argument every time.

  29. We are spread out all over the place. But we have a family reunion once a year.

  30. We all get together and light bags of poo on people's front porches....

    Just Kidding :).... We go camping with friends of the family at this cool spot in Northern California every year.
