What is one of your favorite anime opening? Why?

One of my favorite anime openings is the 2nd opening of Death Note. I thought it was so cool. I love "What's Up People" though at first I didn't like the loud head banging music of the song very much, but it grew on me, the more I saw it. I thought this rock metal type of music was a surprising choice for the series and I didn't think it quite fit well. Now I love Maximum the Hormone and now realize the song goes well with Light's inner thoughts and personality. But I always loved the opening visual itself. My all time favorite part in that opening is the part when the screen comes up an focus on Light looking down from a roof and the song's chorus start, oh my gosh, that part sent a chill up my spine. That couple of seconds totally embodied Light's personality so well. I could feel Light's superiority, him looking down on the viewers with his cold evil glowing eyes, you could really sense Light's arrogant personality. Oh my gosh that opening was amazing. That made me love Death Note so much more. I saw the opening before I saw the anime so it made me excited to actually see the show.

Well that's my opinion, now its your turn. Give me one of your favorite anime opening and tell me why you like it. It doesn't have to be as long-winded as mine, I just really like that opening.

I LOVE "Haruka Kanata" from Naruto. The clips AND the song. I don't know why. They just...rock.

I really like Bleach's first opening theme Asterisk by Orange Range. The song is great and catchy and I think the opening really portrays what Bleach is all about and who the characters are.

Ugh, I hated the music from the 2nd opening of Deathnote.  I can speak Japanese fairly well, and I can't understand the lyrics at all other than "RRRRAAAUUUUGGHHHHH!"  The short loop where Ryuk does that dance with the apple is pretty funny though...

Anyways...  There's an old series called 'Urusei Yatsura', from the same woman who did Inuyasha and Ranma 1/2.  It was a big hit in Japan over 20 years ago.  One of the later seasons used a song called 'Rock the planet' which put together with the opening animation perfectly captures the zaniness of the show - and manages to introduce, in some fashion, the huge cast of characters the show had accumulated by that time.  Very rock video-esque.

Outlaw Star's opening is pretty good, as is Cowboy Bebop's.

I liked the Naruto themes.

Like "Fighting Dreamers" [[yes i know thats not the name, but people will know what im talking about if i say that]]

& the first shippuden theme "Heroes come back...." or something like that. =]

I've liked many openings.

My fav. is as you described "What's Up People?!" Like you, I kinda didn't like the song at first, but I got used to seeing it. Heavy metal Japanese rock... I was like "Wow. I kinda like this." I started to watch more and more of it. And, being it a second opening, I saw all the characters in it. Light seemed so "more" like his evil self with the superiority complex. I loved that. I liked seeing his personality full of emotions, instead of the stay calm side of him. So, I love the song, and downloaded it. lol

"Mottete! Sailor Fuku!" Its the opening to Lucky Star. Also one of my favorites. Its cute, and I love it. I saw it in many different forms, like Death Note, and Prince of Tennis doing the dances of this song. It was hilarious. It goes with the anme as well.  The opening was so anime like, different from other openings, which make it unique and interesting to watch. Its like a Japanese drama, except in anime form. There are four singers singing in this song, so their names are long. I also downloaded this song.

"Bon Voyage!" Its the 4th opening to One Piece, by Bon-Bon-Blanco. I'm a fan of her songs, cuz I have like three of her songs. When I hear the song, it makes me want to go join a pirate crew, the Straw Hats in particular. When I watched the opening, I feel like I'm part of it. Makes me want to go on a voyage, and have fun as a pirate. I watched the lead heros and heroines in the opening, the Straw Hat crew, and it looks like they're having fun. Each of them have their child hood past in it for 2 seconds each.

So, that's my explaination for loving these openings.

I love the second opening for Death Note!  I thought nothing would ever top the theme for Cowboy Bebop but I was sooo wrong.  I actually downloaded lots of J-rock after that (I already had some Nightmare, as advertised by the first opening).  My very favorite part of that whole sequence is the *lyrics* themselves!  But they changed them before putting the English translation at the bottom of the screen, you know?  What's funny is, if you listen, you can easily understand what they're saying.  The best part visually is during that part of the song where it's just guitar and slow and Yagami is slowly walking through his world like he owns it.  Then at the end, right before it picks up again, that must be Near there.  A quick flash of just his head, because when the theme first aired Near wasn't in the picture yet.  Foreshadowing?

Anyway, I also love the Cowboy Bebop one.  When I first saw it (way back when!) I thought it was a much older animé because of the style of the music, but no, it was made in the 90's and the music is just some more of Yoko Kanno's genius.

Oh, and is nobody going to mention Ghost in the Shell?  I loved "Inner Universe".  The song alone makes that worth mentioning.

I like the opening for the anime of Lucky Star. It is catchy, cute, and has a great japanese song to it! When I seen the characters of the show, dancing, I felt like dancing too! It gets me jumpy, and it makes me want to sing! When the characters of the show, were cheerleaders, I thought they looked super cool! How the cheer went was cool! I loved it, couldn't ask for more.
