What is or what are Otherkin?

Okay, I've heard this term thrown around in much the same way as therianthropy (werecreatures) but I'm kinda unclear as to what it means, specifically. Can anyone help with that?

Otherkin are people who don't feel completely comfortable identifying as human.  It's mainly online and has served to replace Dungeons and Dragons as a topic of discussion or rallying point for social misfits everywhere.
