What is or where can i find a bicycle "alternator"?

my friend was talking about on his old bike he had an alternator on it that would rub againts the tire and run his headlight? and i have no idea what it's actually called or where i can get one.... so please anyone?

It's a generator.  My brother had one years ago.  Try a bicycle shop, or this link to Amazon.com.
