What is our relationship with nature?

Im reading a book and have to anwser this question for school. I am in the middle. Believe that there are some people that protect nature, but others who destroy it. so is our relationship a positive, negative or a neutral one?

  1. Other than being totally dependent, humans have only a negative relationship with nature.  We serve no purpose as without humans, there would be no deterioration of any food chain or food web.  Without humans no other organism is affected.  Humans are one of only a couple of organisms that, if the organism becomes extinct, there would be no negative (and more likely a positive) effect on the environment.

    Therefore, based on your three choices, humans have a negative effect.


  2. The first thing to notice is that we are part of nature, and ignore this at our peril.

  3. Without technology, humans would be a part of nature.  With technology we will destroy it.

  4. We replace native habitat and ecosystems with systems that are more "useful" to humanity, e.g. agriculture and cities.  There's still "nature" but it's bent to our purposes.
