What is over drive???

what is over drive on a car supposed to mean and what does it do???? and i know this is kinda a dumb qustion

  1. No worries about 'dumb questions".  We all ask them from time to time and that's how we learn.

    Overdrive is when the transmission output is turning faster than the input.  This allows the engine to turn at a slower rate which helps with fuel economy.


  2. The over drive is extra gear (tall gear) so that then engine can rev slower and save gas (and less wear and tear on the engine too).

    the down side is that the engine feel weak in OD.
