What is patrilineal exogamy?

Patrilineal exogamy means one in that society would not be allowed to marry those related to their father - meaning their siblings and all cousins and such on their father's side.  They could still feasibly marry cousins and other relatives on their mother's side, or of course anybody not related to them at all, the latter of which (simply exogamy) is more encouraged in our society.

"Patrilinial" means that ancestry is traced through the male line.

"Exogamy" means the practice of marrying people who are not considered to be related to you at all.

So "patrilinial exogamy" means that you seek to marry only those who are not related to you, and, because you trace ancestry through the male line, you don't consider those of the female line to be related to you. So you couldn't marry someone who was, say, a second cousin on your father's side, but you could marry someone who was a second cousin on your mother's side, because that person would not be considered to be related to you. You could also marry anyone who showed no relation to your whatsoever. So for example, Koreans tend to be patrilinially exogamous. This means that you legally can't marry anyone who SEEMS TO be related on your father's side. This can cause problems because, as an example, if you fall in love with someone with the same last name, from the same general area of the country, but who you cannot prove is related to you in any way, you still can't marry that person, because they fit the category of being related to you some time in the very distant past. You may share a male ancestor 100 generations ago, but you're still considered related.
