I asked a question about why chocolate makes us feel better when upset & someone said because it contains this chemical.

What is it exactly & how does it affect us?

  1. Phenylethylamine acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain and is believed to be found in chocolate. The transmitter lifts our mood and sustains it.

Low levels of Phenylethylamine in the body can sometimes result in depression and low moods.

The caffeine present in chocolate also helps lift our mood and makes us feel better
