The Philippines is a nation-archipelago in Southeast Asia with a population of almost 90 million. The people from the Philippines are called Filipinos. The official languages are Filipino and English.

The Philippines is the only country named after a monarch, King Philip II of Spain. For 333 years the archipelago was colonized by Spain. The Philippines gained independence from Spain in 1898 but it was handed over shortly to the USA, as a result of the Spanish-American War, after the ratification of the Treaty of Paris. The Philippines became a commonwealth of the USA during the first half of the 20th Century, with the USA claiming the archipelago was not yet ready for independence (military, international affairs, economy). The Philippines could have been a US state only that it was overruled by Filipino patriots. The Philippines gained full independence in 1947 and since then, has maintained friendly relations with the USA.

A country in the Asia-Pacific region in South-East Asia. IT was part of the Spainish Empire until 1898 when Spain lost the Spainish-American War and gave the Philippines, Guam, Cuba, Puerto Rico and the rmainder of its Asia-Pacific territories to the US. From this date until about a year later, the Philippines was officially a territory of the US but did not have control of the country, as they were now fighting Filipino troops who did control the country. In 1899, the Filipino troops fell and the US began its control over the Philippines.

In the mid-1930s, it was proclaimed the first US Commonwealth (the Commonwealth of the Philippine Islands) and was granted nearly complete independence. Halfway through WWII, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii and invaded the Philippines simultaneously, to weaken US forces in the Pacific. In 1946, the US granted the Philippines complete independence.

Philippenos are EVERYWHERE.  They can be found not just in the Phillipenes, but in every freakin country in the world, they eat pansit and lumpia and take all the good jobs on military bases.
