What is photographic id needed for irish republic?

would a senior citizen bus pass (with photo) be adequate photo id to visit the irish republic? we would be travelling by sea, but do not have a passport & do not really want to go to that expense for a one off week`s holiday

  1. you used ti be fine with no ID on the ferry but they do random checks. i work in travel agents we are also told to advise passport or photo driving licence.

    just checked irish ferries website and they advise passport, driving licence, bank cards and photo id

    so best to take whatever you feel more comfortable with. personally i'd say your bus pass with bank cards


  2. Yes that would be sufficient. There are no border controls between the UK and Ireland. Enjoy your holiday there.

  3. Didnt know you did?  I went from scotland to N Ireland, then down to the Republic without ID.  Or is this a Boat thing when you are going there direct.  I know you;d need it to fly, but you need it to fly even between Scotland and England

  4. use a mirror, they will accept the fact that when you look in it it shows you, perfect ID for al the family. it's transferable too.

  5. Yes,  by boat your bus pass will be fine.
