  1. It's what's considered the "normal" amount of salt in an organism.  You could also use the term isotonic (as opposed to hypertonic and hypotonic).


  2. A physiological, better isotonic salt solution is a solution of 0.9% w/v of NaCl, about 300 mOsm/L.

    Its salinity is higher ( 154 mmol/l ) than concentration in  human serum ( Na+ 135–145 mmol/l, Cl- 98–109 mmol/l ).

    Its osmolarity of 308 mosmol/l  is nearly identic with human  blood plasma.

    It is infunded to compensate fluid depletion often  accompanied with diarrhea or heart failure f.e.(  people not able to gulp or loosing fluid rapidly ).
