  1. Plant productivity can be measured in various ways, for example:

    - how much CO2 it uses as a measure of photosynthesis,

    - how much biomass it produces,

    - how much fruit it produces

    It really depends what exactly you want to know, different plants are used in different ways, for corn people would be most interested in grains (seeds) produced, same for wheat, rice, etc.

    With wood, people are mostly interested in usable timber produced.

    With salads its the leaf mass, and so on.


  2. Normally it's a phrase that describes the output of a factory (plant). For example, a shoe factory takes on more staff, so plant productivity is increased.
