As the question reads, " What is poetry to you?" What comes to mind. Is poetry just words to you? Or is it something else?

  1. Poetry is a literary art form. Some is good... some is mediocre... some is bad.

  2. poetry to me is my emotions, feelings, thoughts...physical & spiritual. poetry is how life-good, bad, or indifferent-touches me.

  3. Poetry is expression itself.  Thoughts forming art on a canvas other than your mind.  Poetry is not only rhyming, it is emotion locked forever in an idea written, typed, or formed into words.

You can not label a true poem by stanzas, rhythm, or just free verse.  It is more than that.  Poetry is what you make it.  Poetry is beyond existing to meet the next morning.  It is capturing beauty.

Poetry is a reflection of who you are past the walls we build up day to day.

    Hope this helps. ;)

  4. Poetry to me isn't about soul-searching, angst-ridden emotional roller-coaster stuff, it is the words and the images which can be created with an economy not found in other literary forms which grab me (sorry about long sentence).

When Paul Simon sings about an injured road, it tickles me.  Not a pot-holed road, not a crumbling road, a worn road ...an injured road....I love that kind of use of language.

When I'm writing poetry, I like to amuse and entertain (mostly) and I try very hard not to use cliches, I want to make words take on new roles and provide images previously unseen.

When I'm reading poetry I want to be amused, entertained and be driven to say 'wow' ....and when this happens it gives me immense pleasure.

  5. i would think touching thoughts

  6. Poetry is an artful expression of the contents of my crippled mind
