  1. Who's mooching? The Queen is 80 years old and still works a full-time job. She keeps several hundred appointments a year. She works Monday to Friday, and from early morning into the night. In addition to being Head of State for the UK, she is head of State for 57 other countries and territories, head of the Commonwealth, head of the Church and head of the Armed Forces. In addition to that she maintains her own estates, her stud farm and cares for various royal collections.

As for mooching, well, revenues from the Royal Estates she has gracously given to the State. What the State pays her in return is roughly 30 % of what that revenue is worth. And then she volunteered to pay income tax. The woman is hardly a moocher. Can we say the same for those who have their offices by vote?

And by the way, all of you who critize the tradition of a monarchy, have you bothered to vote in your country's elections?

  2. The point is that the Queen is the opiate of the masses. Never mind all that is wrong with the country, get the 'little' (to quote Charles) people to wave the flags and shout 'god save the queen'.

  3. The point is there is no point.  It's called tradition.

  4. It's as pointless as paying our ex-presidents a pension.  They don't need it, they already have money.  Sometimes tradition is the only reason we do things.

  5. Its a british tradition and what make Britain differant from everyone else.

England in copies the USA and others far to much and to see our monach go (even thou they serve no purpouse) would be one step closer to becoming as daft as the USA

  6. You are extremely rude and ill-informed. What may appear to you as being a "pompous snoot" (not sure what snoot is meant to be) we see as dignity personified as is required from someone appointed by Almighty God to be Monarch of a great nation.

As our gracious Queen would say "speak when you are spoken to!"

    Vivat Regina Elizabetha!

  7. well its to do with tourism too, like it or not people from other countries often come to see the Queen, namely the daft Americans.  Who think they can get a cup of "English Tea" with the Queen.  But i agree stupid tradition we will always have.

  8. It's like owning your own celebrity.  There's a sense of pride in having a tradition.

Royalty no longer can do nothing.  They are using their status to further certain cause.  I only wish they could do more.
