What is pr cancer? someone pls help?

my cousin was diagnosed w/lupus 2 yrs ago. now she says she has to have surgery for pr cancer. i did a search on google and found nothing. please please someone give me some info on this......

  1. Sorry, but there is no such thing as “PR cancer”. I think your cousin made up their own abbreviation as “PR” is not related to anything that makes sense.

    EDIT: Progesterone receptor does not mean the cells do not need progesterone, it simply means progesterone receptor. Breast cancers are checked to see if this receptor is negative or positive. Either way, a patient would likely refer to this as breast cancer not PR cancer.


  2. PR- Describes cells that do not have a protein to which the hormone progesterone will bind. Cancer cells that are PR do not need progesterone to grow, and usually do not stop growing when treated with hormones that block progesterone from binding. Also called progesterone receptor negative.

  3. Lupis doesn't cause cancer.

    She might be referring to pre cancer. She may have nodules somewhere that might become cancerous if not removed.
