  1. I would go with C.

  2. If those are your only criteria, either A or C.

Obviously, fossil fuels pollute the environment in many ways, and they are certainly not renewable. Nuclear energy is also nonrenewable, and it does emit waste, although it is a better choice than fossil fuels.

Presently, most of the pollution cost for both solar and wind power comes from making the necessary materials. However, by switching to a system in which one of these was used, the power generated by these devices could overtake oil and the like in the manufacturing process.

Solar energy is unreliable in that areas where solar farms cannot be set up cannot utilize the solar energy hitting the ground everyday around the local community. However, in an article in Scientific America, their was a proposal that cited the possible legitimacy of using desert land and converting AC power lines like the ones we have now into DC power lines which might solve that particular setback. Another pro of solar is the many forms in which energy can be harnessed using it. This cannot be said of very many other types of alternate energy.

Wind power's major setback is similar to solar power's. except that in addition, many people find them aesthetically displeasing.

Given the three criteria above, though, solar-hydrogen and wind both fit the bill, and would be legitimate solutions to the energy problem if implemented en masse.

  3. In the short run Nuclear is the most reliable but wind and solar are the most renewable.

  4. The best one is non of those its water. You can use filtered tap water to power a car, make a torch. Check out these videos on youtube. Its just that the oil companys buy the tech and throws it in the closet. Or threatens the creator. Stanley Meyer was someone that people suspect was killed for this technology.

  5. A or C.

if you are asking which ones are the most reliable, renewable and can actually support our demand it's a mix of all four.  It depends on how you look at the question.

  6. kasem

  7. I think none or all, depending on how you look at it.  All have benefits and all have drawbacks.  But, we got accustomed to using a single fuel source, fossil fuels, that there has been a mindset that we must move on to another single source.

I think we should use a basket of energy sources, using what makes most sense for the place using energy. Currently, we need to incorporate A, B & C as much as possible, as they are renewable.  I think we could incorporate fossil fuel with a lot less impact if it were only 10-20% of all of our energy use.   Nuclear has significant drawbacks, but I think it should be used for all large metropolitan areas, as the least of the evils for powergrids (until there's more solar).

  8. Personally, I'd say a combination of Solar-hydrogen and wind, but I suppose either stands well alone.

  9. A and C.  But what about geothermal for heating?  Its more expensive to install.  After about 7 yrs though you are ahead of the game wrt money output.  You can use it for heating and cooling your home (including your driveway so you wouldnt have to shovel it!!)

  10. It seems there is not one right answer to this question. The best energy source is determined by the location, the problem at hand, and what resources are available. What is best for one area, may not be as efficient in another area. For example, solar energy would be a great source of energy in an area that receives a great deal of sun, such as southern U.S. Wind energy seems to be best suited for areas on the coast because of the constant wind. Nuclear energy and fossil fuel use will be declining in the upcoming years due to their impact on the environment. The pollution they give off is what we are trying to avoid.

  11. C

  12. The best answer is not on your list-biomass. But of the four you picked "A" is by far the best.

  13. Lets start with renewable...All are renewable, but fossil fuel takes millions of years to renew and Nuclear would require we travel to other planets to renew.

Reliable... All are reliable  but other limits prevent the solar and wind from use in some areas.  The transport of power from sunny and windy to cloudy and calm areas involves huge lose of power.

ALL cause some air pollution with fossil being the worst.  But nuclear radiation can also be considered air pollution and could be much worse, for people, than anything.

Cost is the factor that determines the solution.  If we don't begin today to replace Fossil fuel and the primary source of energy the cost will continue to rise until it reaches a level above all the others.

The best solution would be a rapid use of solar, wind and geothermal where ever possible.  Judicious use of Nuclear where the previous will not work.  And an emphasis by the government to speed research on improving and advancing non-polluting forms of energy.

  14. B and C are our best bets for now the infrastructure for A will have to be developed over time.
