Question:

What is proper etiquette for contacting this potential employer?

I recently emailed my resume to an potential employer who emailed me back a few days ago. He asked me if I would have time to speak over the phone sometime this week. I replied by telling him I would like to speak at a specific time on a specific day... but he has not replied. This was a very brief email exchange ("Want to talk this week?"; "Yes, how about Tuesday at 3 PM?"). If I don't receive a call from him after a few minutes, should I call him or should I email him that evening and let him know that I missed his call and would like to set up another time? I don't want to sound desperate for this job, but also don't want to miss out on this opportunity.

  1. Well did you miss the call? you should phone and say you are interested in this job.. but could he give you an approximate idea when he will be calling.. as you don't wish to miss the phone call.. That is a question which a boss should understand and you cannot possibly sit by the phone all day every day of the week.. so he should narrow it down to a day .. and  either at least say.. in the morning or in the afternoon.. that gives you an idea when you should be ''available. .Yes I would phone back instead of emailing and clarify this  by talking to him. .. an email will only waste time.

  2. You should have told him to call you anytime. I'm in recruitment and if someone told me to call them at an exact time, it would be difficult as I'm a very busy person.

At the end of the day, it's the contactable person who usually gets the job.....

  3. Showing your eagerness to be hired doesn't mean your lowering your pride...of course we are talking about your career.

Maybe the employer want to measure how much you like the job..

By giving him, the statement of specific time and date, showing him, that its not them whom you would please but its you that they need to please...duh...c'mon guys...your not a star nor a famous one.

  4. I agree with the rest. You should be easily contactable to a potential employer (unless he is aware that you are still currently working).

Why don't you wait for for his reply? He is probably busy to reply within that hour or day. If he is interested in employing you, he'll write a follow-up email on that day to confirm on the time.

If he has not called you by 3pm, you could drop an email saying that you are interested in the job and would appreciate if he could arrange for an interview (phone) based on his schedule.
