What is proper etiquette for splitting gasoline costs? My friend does not drive; she takes the bus everywhere. However, I usually pick her up and drop her off from our weekly exercise classes (a few miles out of my way – in addition to more traffic). She's now come to expect this. Is it right for me to ask her to split gasoline costs? We are both mature adults, how do I ask her politely?

  1. Ask her a privete time polaitly

  2. you should tell her that you want some money to cover your expense of driving out of your way to pick her up for the class.  She may want to take the bus instead.

  3. Just ask her if she can help you out in anyway either with gas or something else.

Be up front and honest is the best way

  4. Just politely explain to her that because of the cost of gas, you need some help with this.  If she is a true friend, she will not be offended (in my opinion, she should have offered you some gas money for the door-to-door service that helps her out).  If she take offense, let her take the bus, and let he know no hard feeling on your behalf.  Good luck with this.

  5. personally I think don't understand why people get so worried about a few pounds between friends. I drive and my friends don't and I never ask them for money and if they offered, I'd refuse.  Whats it matter in the scheme of things.

If you feel that strongly about it get her to pay for your drinks after your class.

  6. If she is your friend than you should be able to just be up front and ask.  If she has a problem with it then let her take the bus and realize what kind of friend she is. My boyfriend lost his license and he throws his friend that picks him up for work everyday money.  It is not a big deal and she shouldn't be offended, especially the way gas costs are.

  7. Politely let her know that money is tight right now and that you would appreciate it if she could chip in a share of the gas money. I would definitely ask for gas money especially since im having to go out of my way. Don't let people run you over, even your friends.

  8. If you are happy to do the favor keep doing it, if not I'm sure she'll find another way to get there.

I would hate a friend to be so cheap and ask for $0.50  in gas for each week.

  9. You can sing for her while driving, then tell her the music was free.

    It worked for me.

  10. Bring up the topic one day when you're giving her a ride.  Explain your reason (whether financial difficulty, gas costing an arm and a leg, etc) then ask her politely...Another perspective: if it's a route you would drive anyway, you don't need to ask her to split the costs.  That is just wrong.

  11. come on this is ur friend u would embarrase her and urself i say if u love money that much u can try 2 skip giving her rides by pretending ur busy or anything
