  1. loads of buses you should not have any trouble getting about by bus.

  2. Its meant to be good and taxi's are cheap but negotiate before you get in

  3. I would consider renting a car if you can.  There seem to be quite a few buses between cities, but service isn't always that frequent, and most of the lines are centered around the larger cities like Santa Curz de Tenerife, Playa de las Américas, and Puerto de la Cruz.

Heading up to the summit (or near the summit) of Mt.Teide was incredible!  The views are amazing, and the changes in the landscape as you get higher and higher are very dramatic.  The volcanic landscape at the top isn't quite as spectacular as Lanzarote, but it's startling to break out of the pine forests onto a vast and empty volcanic plain.  I especially recommend the gradual climb from La Esperanza up the ridge of the island to the Parque Nacional de Teide, though coming from the southern coast of the island it's a bit out of the way.

There are lots of great places to stop for photos along the way, which you wouldn't be able to do on a bus.  If you can't rent a car or arrange a tour, there is a public bus that goes up to the summit area once a day (one departure in the morning, one return in the afternoon) from Playa de las Américas (there's also one from Puerto de la Cruz).  I would recommend finding the timings at least a day or two in advance, because you would need to find a bus into Playa de las Américas early enough to catch the Mt.Teide bus.

If you do opt to rent a car, there are a lot of inexpensive car rental companies in the Canary Islands.  A lot of them have better rates if you rent something for a few days or longer and many will even drop the car at your hotel and pick it up for you.  For one day rentals, I found the best rates with Cicar (http://www.cicar.com ) and have had generally good experience both times I've rented from them (once on Tenerife, once on Lanzarote).

  4. Go everywhere, its a small island, it doesnt take long. The volcano dinner trip is a laugh, but take a coat.

  5. Btw,Your staying right near the airport, the name is ironic!!

Anyway transport in Tenerife is really good, its a great place , i love it.
