Question:

What is public transportation like in Paris? Also, hotels?

I will be in Paris with my boyfriend at the end of August. We need to know:

Exactly how do we get from CDG airport to downtown? How much does it cost?

What is an affordable hotel for two nights close to tourist attractions?

(we're also considering nicer hostels that have private rooms/bathrooms)

After two nights, we will be taking a TGV train to the southern part of France, and then returning to Paris to catch our flight in CDG (we have about 7 hours before our flight departs). How do we get from Paris Montparnasse 1 et 2 to CDG airport, and again, how much will this cost?

I appreciate any help! Thank you!

  1. Hi there Purpun,

To go from CDG to downtown Paris you have several options:

    * Catch an RER train from Roissy (Charles De Gaulle airport) for approximately 8€, but only if you don't have more than one bag to carry. It's hard to negotiate on the trains with a backpack, a wheelie bag and carry -on luggage :-)

    * or book the Airport Shuttle for 25€.

    * or book Parishuttle

    For accommodation:

A hotel I stayed in a couple of weeks ago was in a perfect location!  In the heart of St Michel, a centuries-old hotel with character - I wrote a review about it on my website - Hotel Saint Andre des Arts:

Paris is a great city to get around in - any place you stay will be no more than 15 mins from the major attractions.  To get around by public transport is also very easy :

You'll have a fabulous adventure, I'm sure of it :-)

    Have fun!

  2. Public transportation in Paris is excellant with a system of subways (the Metro), light rail (the RER), and buses.

To get from CDG into the city you can take the RER which has a station inside the airport. The train stops at several places within the city from which you can transfer to the Metro.

You can get a double with breakfast included at the Hotel St. andre des Artes for 86 euros. Its a perfect location. Look at this website: http://www.123france.com/en/0/hotel-sain...

To get from the Gare Montparnasse to CDG take Metro line 4 makred "Direction : Porte d'Orleans (General Leclerc)" to the Denfert-Rochereau stop. Change to the RER B marked "Direction : Aeroport Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV"

  3. Most people take RER from CDG to downtown. It's very convenient. However, if you have too much luggage, it can be bit cumbersome as there are no large luggage racks. In that case, it's better to take a taxi.
