  1. I agree with Cookie answer, but if you are a real tourist you don't go to Punta Cana. Puerto Plata is 10x better!

  2. Punta Cana, on the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic, is what Caribbean postcards are made of: twenty-five miles of white sand, swaying coconut trees and more than 35 resorts (which by law cannot be taller than a palm tree). European tourists long ago discovered Punta Cana and Americans are now catching on. At this affordable tropical getaway, most guests choose to stay in all-inclusive resorts. The town itself isn't a tourist draw; the primary purpose of Punta Cana is relaxation by the sea.

We booked this hotel in February for a two week stay end March - beginning April. Then we started reading a number of poor reviews in late Feb early March that began to lower our expectations.

We needn't have worried however as our experience of the Majestic was excellent. What these previous reviewers found to complain about, I really don't know.

We e-mailed a request for a pool view room prior to our arrival and got exactly what we wanted - half way down block 2 on the second floor. This has to be a prime location. Avoid block 4 if you can or you get a view of the construction next door (this will be another Majestic sister hotel - once its complete I'm sure the view will be fine). The room was fine (but note privacy issue on other reviews if it is likely to affect you)

Whatever time or day you can get something to eat/drink at one of the many restaurants/bars. We (myself, wife and 7 yr old daughter) found the standard of food to be very good with wide choice. Service from the friendly staff was also consistently good. Try out the giant seafood paella that they cook on the beach once a week.

The pool is beautiful, meandering right through the well kept and pretty grounds. The beach is soft white sand under palm trees. The water is clear. blue and warm. Staff do a good job of keeping the beach clear of washed up seaweed. They have a variety of water sports but be wary that conditions can be testing - there is a reef not that far out with a shipwreck as evidence of its danger. We watched a catamaran sail too close to the wind and capsize - the occupants had to be rescued by the marine sports staff. I tried sea kayaking which was fine but hard work against a strong current.

There are many excursions on offer, we did a 'fun buggy' trip. This involved driving to several points of interest in a beach buggy convoy of six vehicles. This was an enjoyable but tiring and dusty day. The vehicles were very basic (its a buggy) and driving them took a little getting used to. When on the main roads watch out for some erratic local driving. Once off the roads on the tracks our little convoy had the run of the place to ourselves.

Evening shows were well attended - some were very good but we found the 'game show' variety a bit lame. But others liked them better. My wife went to the spa for a treatment - gave it 8 out of 10 but hard to communicate with the staff if you don't speak Spanish.

There is a shopping centre called Palma Real involving a $18, 30 min cab ride each way. Not really worth the effort.

If you like to see weddings then this is the place to come - usually one every day, either on the beach or in the purpose built gazebo.

We have stayed all inclusive at other resorts before (although not in DR) and this was definitely a step above the average.

Arrival at Punta Cana airport was fine but departure involved long queues so give yourself plenty of time - it took us nearly 90 mins to get to the departure lounge.

Final verdict - if you want a great holiday in the Dominican Republic, you will find the Majestic Colonial very hard to beat. Highly recommended.

  3. Hi I am a travel agent at Liberty Travel.  The Majestic is a great hotel.  I have sent many people their and everyone always loves it.  It is a beautiful resort and it prices pretty well too.  I highly recommend this resort.

The other resort I love there in Punta Cana is called Excellence.  It is amazing but this is a couples only resort. Majestic is for anyone.

Punta cana has lots of palm trees and beautiful large beaches.  There is not much to see or do off your resort besides the normal boat trips, ATV rides, horse backing and things like that.  It is a very poor country but the resorts are beautiful and safe.

  4. You have made a good choice when it comes to Punta Cana.  The Majesctic is less than 2 years old.  It is basically new.  The landscaping is not even mature yet.  They have nice rooms.  The buffet is pretty good with a good selection.  The massage/spa is one of the bests in Punta Cana.  The only thing about Punta Cana as a whole, you have to bring mosquito repellant, especially around this time of the year.  Do the tours as well.  You will have fun.  I used to live in DR for years and really truly enjoyed myself as I got to know the country.  I now live on the other side of the island, Haiti.  It has been a real adventure living in Haiti.  It is poorer than DR but the smile of the children melts your heart.   Eventually, Haiti will get better. 5. Hey

I went to the Majestic in may of last year. The Place is truely a 5 star with great service. The rooms were huge and beautiful (especailly the huge shower). The food was great with lots of selection. The water was warm and clear where you're able to see nice colourful fish snorkling form the beach. The only complaint I had was that they didn't have butler service at the beach (I guess I'm a princes, or just lazy) but I did have my boyfriend that hated to sit bring us drinks. It is a nice small resort, 1-2 min walk to everything.
