  1. Purple prose is any passage in writing that is so overly ornate and elaborate that it draws attention to itself and interrupts the flow of the plot. It may be emotionalism in a situation where it seems excessive or inappropriate, or simply forced melodrama.

  2. Overly flowery and descriptive writing.

  3. A piece that is 99% overly flower/unnecessary description.

'I watched the dog run across the grassy green field, its long white hair bouncing with every step. Between its strong jaws was a purple and yellow chew toy, filled with hundreds of holes from prolonged use. The grass beneath his extremely large paws flattened and broke with each forceful step. A fly buzzed around my head, tiny and black, roughly the size of my finger tip. I swatted it, but missed. Again, I missed.'

That's basically purple prose, just multiply it by 20.

  4. google it and you will see it ia many things

  5. Awkward, poorly written prose
