the main differnce between Disney World and Disneyland ..???

One isn't necessarily better than the other, but here are the basics:

Disneyland

Anaheim, CA

2 theme parks:  Magic Kingdom & California Adventure

3 hotels:  Disneyland Hotel, Grand Californian, Paradise Pier

Much smaller (land and theme park size) than Disney World, but much easier to get around (as the hotels and theme parks are all within walking distance)

Disney World

Orlando, FL

4 theme parks:  Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom

15+ hotels

2 water parks

roughly the size of Manhattan, all the hotels and theme parks are spread out.  Bus service is available.

Both DL and WDW share many of the same attractions (but not always in the smae theme park or land).

WDW definitely has more to offer, but is sometimes too big for many people.

Disneyland only has 1 main park.

Disney World has 4 main parks.

I think Walt Disney World is more popular and more known.

The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim California, consists of 2 Parks: Disneyland (the original Disney Park opened in 1955) and Disney's California Adventure.

In Orlando Florida, you have the Walt Disney World Resort, which consists of 4 Parks (The Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Walt Disney Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom), plus 2 Water Parks.

Obviously WDW is much larger. The Magic Kingdom got much of it's original feel from Disneyland, but over time things have changed. California's Adventure has pulled several rides, attractions and themes from several of the WDW Parks, and combined them into one Park.

There is more, (and this could go on for pages) but you only wanted the main points.
